Northern Panthers 19 - 22 Ponteland 2nd XV
Ponteland’s 2nd XV continued their strong early-season form with a hard-fought 22–19 victory away to Northern’s Panthers in what proved to be their toughest test so far.

Arriving with a squad of 18, 12 of whom had featured in the previous week’s match, Ponteland were able to build on a growing sense of cohesion and understanding across the team. That continuity paid off, as the side displayed both structure and spirit in a fascinating clash of styles — Northern’s young, fast, and elusive players against Ponteland’s powerful forwards and pacey, experienced backs.
From the outset, the set piece became a key battleground, with the Ponteland scrum asserting dominance throughout. The pack’s power forced several turnovers and penalties, repeatedly putting Northern on the back foot. Though two free kicks were conceded for early engagement, Ponteland’s front row continued to set the platform for controlled, territory-building rugby.
In open play, every member of the side stepped up. Cam was immense in defence, delivering a series of crunching tackles and showing great composure to handle a few challenging passes under pressure. At flanker, Kaolin was relentless — hunting down opposition runners, contesting breakdowns, and making strong, direct carries whenever the opportunity arose. AJ continued his impressive run of form at outside centre, linking well with the backs and making key line breaks, while Burky at full-back provided a calm and confident presence, counter-attacking with pace and reading the game superbly.
Despite Northern’s persistence and flashes of attacking flair, Ponteland managed the match intelligently, staying in control for much of the game. The experienced core of the team ensured that momentum never swung too far away, and when the pressure mounted late on, the squad’s defensive organisation and determination held firm.
The final whistle brought well-earned celebrations for a group that is beginning to gel into a cohesive, confident unit. With another victory under their belts and a growing belief in their ability to perform under pressure, the Ponteland 2nd XV can look ahead to their next challenge with real optimism.
Every player deserves credit for a performance built on effort, commitment, and a collective will to win.
