On the charge

Pont 2nds v Whitley Bay 1st October

What a cracking day, sun out and two sides up for a game, Whitley Bay certainly looked pound for pound the bigger side, but Pont seemed well in the zone even before KO.
The game started well with Pont playing basic rugby in a controlled fashion, the young players were certainly quick to the ball and frustrated WBay early on, this led to some quick ball to the backs and a nice opening try from James Shiells . The game started to open up now with WBay throwing everything at our pack to try and get their hands on the ball but Pont were not having any of it Sean , Scotty and Jordon were certainly calling the early shots and bringing the younger players into the game, Dan Elsander was certainly making a nuisance of himself in the pack , this showed with two great try's one after the other. By this point WBay were well peed off and you could see them up their game and ran in an easy try, this certainly made Pont think twice.
Pont though we're straight back on the gas to re I force that early dominance, some great work from the forwards Jack cracking the whip and Dan Carruthers making a general nuisance of himself saw some great ball out to Will,Michael and Stromsey , they put some good ball out wide to Pete and JamesTA both making good ground then presenting the ball back to the chasing pack metres from the line, they did this twice with Sean powering over then a great try from Jack.
the second half saw the introduction of Luke Bailey , well, all 3 minutes of it, one of the smallest but strongest lads, dangerously lift tacking one of their big guys, their not sheep Luke. By this time it was 29-7 and WBay were starting to play a little nasty themselves two sin bins for them within 5 minutes and tempers were raised a little , one for two high tackles and the other was for a tackle off the ball on Dan Carruthers he had had the poor guys ear all afternoon, no wonder. That a side Pont carried on with the task in hand, Harry Lane and Charlie always in on the act controlling g the play, superior fitness started to play and the youngsters were all over them, a clearance kick from Pont saw James TA off up the pitch caught the bounce and head off towards their try line, eventually tackled but Pont had well cleared their lines. The forwards stepped it up again with Ben Stewart scoring two good try's to put Pont well out in front, we even had time for Pete Newbiggin to be sin binned for not looking where he was going and Poleaxing one of their players . With strength in depth on the bench, Dan Potter and Michael Skoyles were introduced , the same game and the same patterns, we were starting to work like a u it.
In the closing minutes Ben Stewart was through on line and in for his hat trick but was held up so deservedly got Dick of the day.
All in all a great squad performance, everyone playing for each other, good support play, simple rugby and effectively keeping the ball moving through out the game.

Looking forward to next week.

Final Score 39-7
