Ponteland RFC would like to announce a number of changes to its Club Committee, following our recent Annual General Meeting (AGM). These changes mark the end of an era for several long-serving members, whose time, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the club have been nothing short of exceptional.
Firstly, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to David Comeskey, who has served as Club President for the past three years. David’s leadership, enthusiasm, and steadfast support have been instrumental during a crucial period for the club. David now moves into the role of Immediate Past President, where we are delighted he will continue to lend his experience and wisdom to the committee.
We also wish to recognise Richard McGlashan, who has stepped down as Club Secretary after more than a decade in the role and over 30 years of involvement with Ponteland RFC. Richard’s commitment, diligence, and passion for the club have made an indelible mark, and we are grateful that he too will remain a familiar face around the club, continuing to support its progress in new ways.
After over a decade of dedicated service as Club Treasurer, Andy Naylor will be stepping down from his position, paving the way for a new committee member to take on the role. Andy’s careful stewardship of the club’s finances has been invaluable, and we are pleased that he will continue to stay closely involved in, and support, the club moving forward.
A special note of thanks goes to Tony Murphy, who moves on from his role as Immediate Past President. Tony was instrumental in steering the club through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic - a period that tested the resilience of all sporting communities. While his formal committee role concludes, Tony will, of course, always be a Past President and a valued figure within our rugby family.
Lastly, we celebrate and thank Andy Maidwell, who is stepping down from his committee role leading Commercial Operations Director. Andy’s work has played an hugely important part in supporting the club’s off-field operations, partnerships, and sponsorships, contributing to the broader growth and sustainability of Ponteland RFC. In particular, it was Andy’s vision and drive that led to the establishment of the Ponteland Beer Festival back in 2014. This very popular community event has thrived under Andy’s leadership.
We extend our sincere gratitude to each of these individuals for their remarkable service to Ponteland RFC. Their collective contribution has helped shape the club into the vibrant, welcoming, and ambitious community it is today.
We look forward to announcing new appointments to the committee shortly and continuing to build on the strong foundations they have helped to lay.
