The 1st Xv's league campaign got off to a dreadful start via a sound defeat to newly relegated Darlington. Whilst Ponteland started the game brightly, a much disputed red card after 10 minutes stopped the home team in their tracks. Whilst unfortunate, this shouldn't be used as an excuse - Darlington deserved their win and on the strength of their performance it would seem as if they won't be in DN1 for long.
The challenge is now with Ponteland to prove that they are good enough to stay in this league. The campaign therefore must restart on Saturday, away to Ashington.
